The rules of using this app.

★ The plain-English summary

If you only read one thing here.

  • Be a real person, be honest. One account per human. Don't impersonate, don't spam, don't harass.
  • You own what you post. We get a limited license to display it on the platform. You can delete it any time.
  • The app is free for citizens. Orgs pay $79/mo. Donations carry a 1.9% + $0.30 platform fee.
  • We can suspend abusive accounts. Threats, harassment, deception, automated abuse — out. You can appeal.
  • This isn't legal or financial advice. We surface civic information; you make your own decisions.

★ The agreement

By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app — there are no consequences for declining beyond not being able to use the product.

You need to be at least 16 to have a personal account. Donation features require 18+ for federal compliance reasons.

★ How you may use the app

Pretty broadly: take civic actions, back candidates, join orgs, contact officials, donate, connect with friends, run an org or candidate workspace if you set one up. The whole product is yours to use.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the service for these purposes. You may not resell access, scrape the data, or build a derivative product on top without a written commercial agreement.

★ What's prohibited

These things will get your account suspended, possibly permanently:

  • Impersonating a real person, candidate, or organization
  • Harassing, threatening, or doxxing other users
  • Creating multiple accounts to inflate counts or evade suspension
  • Automated scraping, mass account creation, or other bot behavior
  • Posting illegal content, malware, or deceptive content designed to defraud
  • Coordinated inauthentic behavior — fake grassroots, fake constituents, manufactured outrage
  • Using the platform to facilitate voter intimidation or election interference
  • Selling, transferring, or sharing your account with someone else

Suspension decisions are appealable. Email appeals@iamdemocracy.app.

★ Content you post

You retain ownership of everything you create — your profile, your bio, your "why I joined" notes, your candidate landing page content if you run one. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display this content on the platform as part of providing the service. The license ends when you delete the content.

You're responsible for what you post. If you post something that violates someone else's rights (copyright, defamation, etc.), we may have to remove it under applicable law (e.g. DMCA).

★ Donations & fees

Donations are non-refundable except in cases of fraud or processing error. The receiving committee is the legal recipient, not us — refund requests go through the committee's treasurer.

We charge a 1.9% + $0.30 platform fee per donation, plus Stripe's standard processing rate. The platform fee covers our compliance overhead and infrastructure. We don't take a percentage margin.

Organization subscriptions are $79/mo (or sliding-scale for grassroots groups under 200 members — email hello@iamdemocracy.app). Cancel any time; you keep access through the end of the paid period.

Donations over $50 require FEC-compliant donor information. We will reject donations that fail compliance checks (mismatched name/address, prohibited source under federal law, etc.) and refund them automatically.

★ Disclaimers & liability

This is not legal, tax, or financial advice. We surface civic information (candidate funding profiles, bill summaries, official records). You're responsible for your own decisions about whom to support, donate to, or vote for.

We try to be accurate, but we're not perfect. Candidate data comes from FEC and OpenSecrets, which can lag, contain errors, or be incomplete. We display the data as we receive it. If you spot an error, tell us at hello@iamdemocracy.app.

The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the greater of $100 or the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months. This limitation doesn't apply to gross negligence or intentional misconduct on our part.

★ Termination

You can delete your account any time from Data & deletion. We hold your data for a 30-day grace period, then permanently delete it (except FEC-mandated records — see the Privacy policy).

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, on notice when feasible. We may also discontinue the service or change it materially — if we shut down, we will provide a data export and 90 days notice.

★ Disputes

Most disputes are resolvable by email. Reach legal@iamdemocracy.app first — we will engage in good faith. If we can't resolve a dispute that way, it will be resolved in the courts of Travis County, Texas, under the laws of the State of Texas. We don't require forced arbitration; you have the right to a court.

You also have any rights you have under your local consumer protection laws, regardless of what this section says.
